5 Ways That I Use BamSEC

One of my favorite investing tools out there is BamSEC.

Here are the 5 ways that I use it:

1) Let’s start with spin-offs….

Months before it starts trading, a spin-off will file a Form 10 with all its historical financial information. A Form 10 is similar to a S-1 for an imminent IPO. BamSEC has a page dedicated to the most recently filed form 10s

Better yet, you can opt in to receive email updates any time a new form 10 is filed:

And then you will receive emails like this…

2) Keyword alerts.

I get daily alerts for 3 key words: spin-off, special dividend, and liquidating dividend.

3) Insider Trading.

BamSEC’s insider trading page is very clean.

It enables you to quickly review open market transactions (and exclude share grants) for a particular company:

4) Watched-Company Alerts

And you will receive alerts like this:

5) Extracting data from filings.

BamSEC lets you download individual tables to excel so that you don’t have to waste time transcribing data by hand.

BamSEC is not cheap ($69/month).

But it’s a valuable resource for me.

The company offers a 7 day trial.
